Ana Srebrnič
20. February 1984Ana Srebrnič has been a female grandmaster since 2006. In 2008 and 2012, she was a national champion among members. As part of the women’s team, she participated in 6 Olympics in 2002-2014 and several European Championships, when Slovenian female competitors achieved the highest rankings among the ten best national teams. Recently, Ana has become an internationally recognized chess arbiter.
Jure Borišek
27. July 1986Jure Borišek is one of the best Slovenian chess players and a Grandmaster since 2009. With the Slovenian national team he has participated in nine Olympics and numerous European Championships. In Turkey in 2004, he became the European Under-18 Champion. He won a bronze medal with the team at the Junior EC. After winning the Grandmaster title, he devoted himself to his studies and received his PhD in pharmacy. At the Team EC in Batumi 2019, he achieved the sixth best result on the 2nd chessboard (performance rating 2729).
Jure Škoberne
20. March 1987Jure Škoberne joined the best Slovenian chess players by winning the title of Grandmaster in 2010. In 2017 he became the absolute national champion in the member competition. He has a team medal from the 2004 Youth European Championships. In 2011 and 2018 he won the Nova Gorica Open tournament and achieved excellent results as a Slovenian representative at team member championships. He participated in four chess Olympiads in the years 2008 – 2018. In addition to chess, he is successfully professionally involved in entrepreneurship.
Luka Lenič
13. May 1988Luka Lenič has been Slovenia’s best chess player since 2012. In the junior categories, he shone in 2002 with the title of world champion under 14. In total, he won 4 medals at the European and World Youth Championships. He has been a member of the A national team since 2007. He achieved a high performance rating at the Olympics in Baku (2740) and at the Team EC in Crete (2747). In 2017, he qualified for the World Cup and a year later he was 83rd in the world rankings.
Laura Unuk
9. November 1999Laura Unuk is the best Slovenian woman chess player. At the age of 13, she won the title of national member champion. She is a two-time world junior champion in the under-16 (2014) and under-18 (2017) categories. In 2014, she received the Bloudek Plaque for a significant competitive achievement in sports. In total, she won 10 medals at the European and World Junior Championships. She achieved the title of Woman Grandmaster in 2018 and the title of International Master in 2021. Since 2013, she has been playing for the Slovenian women’s national team, with which she has 3 Olympic appearances.
